Rachael Aitken's first year: From hesitation to triumph

With the renewal of the Welsh Athletics season upon us, we wanted to share the experiences and thoughts of one of our new members from the 2023 season.

Rachael Aitken’s experience may be just the push you need if you’re on the fence about joining a running club this year:

I joined MonRoss Trailblazers in May 2023 and I can I honestly say its been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After ‘getting into’ running during COVID coupled with the birth of my children, I was keen to push myself and find ‘me’ again. From the moment I attended my first training session, I was immediately welcomed by a friendly and encouraging bunch. The process of joining couldn’t have been easier and before I knew it, I was a Trailblazer repping the green vest!

Since joining I have competed with MRTB at various events, including local cross countries, 10k’s and Half Marathon’s. I am continually inspired by the achievements of other club members and look forward to hearing of their success’ too. Structured training sessions are set out by coaches on a weekly basis, they are both varied and challenging. Sessions are never short of support and the camaraderie amongst fellow members will always make you smile. Despite not being at the front of the pack, I always feel valued and included. If you’re thinking of joining MRTB, I highly recommend giving it a go. Who knows where your journey will take you and what you will achieve!
